SHIH TZU PUPPY FOOD & FEEDING

SHIH TZU PUPPY -- FOOD AND FEEDING

SHIH TZU PUPPIES should be monitored closely first few days in new environment, making sure they are eating properly.  If your puppy stops eating or just nibbles, it is time for action to prevent hypoglocemia (See shih tzu puppies & hypoglocemia link)  Have some baby food on hand (Gerber strained lamb, chicken or veal)  usually puppies will eat this, if not they need to be hand-fed  until they start eating on their own.  Nutri-Cal given at this time is helpful.

Feeding a preminum puppy food will keep your puppy looking good, maintaining healthy teeth and hair.  It is suggested that you don't change puppy food or eating habits, started by breeder, during first few weeks with your new shih tzu puppy.  We feed Bil-Jac and Diamond puppy food, and always supply new owner with puppy food.  Any changes should be done gradually to prevent upset digestive system and diarrhea.

A bit of plain yogurt on puppy food also aids in digestion.

It is suggested that SHIH TZU PUPPIES not be fed table food, as this will make them "picky" and they will not get the necessary nutrition, for proper growth.
