SHIH TZU POCKET PUPPIES, IMPERIALS, IMPS, TEACUPS
So much controversary surrounding the above terms--Bottom line is the American Kennel Club doesn't recognize any of these terms in connection with the shih tzu breed. AKC has only one standard for the shih tzu breed. However, as we all know, we do sometimes produce the smaller than standard shih tzu puppies. Although we do not breed for them here at Seminole, we do sometimes have the tiny shih tzus. We certainly do not "inbreed" to make the breed smaller, as some "Imp" breeders do We breed as close to standard as we possibly can. Being responsible professional AKC shih tzu breeders, it is our responsibility to place the "pocket puppies, imperials, imps, teacups, or however one chooses to describe the "smaller" than standard shih tzu. In doing so, we must be sure they are in an environment conducive to their needs.
We do have several of the "tiny" guys listed below, and will make every effort to place them appropriately. These little ones are for loving only. Too small for showing or breeding, but just right for cuddling. Caring for the shih tzu pocket puppies is basically the same as the standard size shih tzus. Grooming, house training is the same. Most breeders today, agree that crate training is the most efficient way to house train a puppy. Well bred healthy pocket puppies have no different health issues than standard size. Of course, we must always remember they are smaller and special care should be used with smaller children. As with all shih tzus, remember to keep eyes clean and dry.
